WTF is HTML5 בעברית

הרצאה שנתתי באלפא-גיקס 3 לפני שנה.
עדיין רלוונטית, אולי אפילו יותר מתמיד.

I've had the pleasure to participate in Mozilla's "Fastest Firefox" campaign.

I'm a part of the campaign's funny and refreshing short video.

What's this

For a long time now my main source of entertainment content is BitTorrent. More specifically TV shows from EZTV with it's RSS feeds via uTorrent providing me with more TV than I have time to watch. So two years ago I stopped my cable subscription, while I find myself watching less and less broadcast TV. I believe it's the start of a media revolution.
Broadcast is dieing, and MOD (Media On Demand) is the new king. VOD, P2P, UGC, ISS Oh yea.
For me it started with Usenet, progressed to Streamload (ahh Desizeus, where art thou), eMule, and now BitTorrent.
It's come to the point where there is so much information flowing on BitTorrent that we can derivate statistics, ratings, peer-traffic, so we can know in real-time what's going on in the network. With hub sites such as mininova, The Pirate Bay, isoHunt, and EZTV already posting stats about the trafic flowing throu their servers, it's time to use these numbers to enrich media reviews.

That's what I'll be trying to do here

P.S. "Novus Interventus" is latin for "New Media", which is nice and meta-cyclic...

My Own Worst Enemy

I have one thing to say about My Own Worst Enemy. Why?
I've seen
E01S01 and it's bad. Well not so much bad as wrong. It starts out nice. Reasonable production, design and art, but the story line, WTF.
Edward Albright is a secret agent of some sort, all cool, slick and unstoppable (almost Zohan like :), but wait for it, when he's not in active duty he's dormant inside his split personality's alter-ego, Hennry Spivey, living a normal white collar life. Why?
Christian Slater playing Edward/Hennry, one of the more far fetched roles I've seen since the early 90's (Double Impact anyone)(actually around the time we sew Chrisitian last).
If not for the high quality production (Jason Smilovic of Bionic Woman producing and Steve Hardie of Buffy designing) and nice art direction by Val Wilt, this could have been a cult trash series, but since NBC have put this on prime time, I'm not predicting good things.

This show is covered by EZTV
where E01S01 has been downloaded ~43K times during the first 4 days of it's release, not too bad. Maybe this will bump up with the show's re-lunch tonight on NBC.

I'll finish with a quote:
Henry Spivey: [playing Chopsticks on Edward's piano] Hey! Hey! Look at that! Now for a bit of poetry! Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm a split personality, and so am I!

True Blood

I've just finished watching E01S01 of True Blood, a new show from HBO directed by Alan Ball of Six Feet Under fame.

The show i
s a drama of the more sophisticated kind, not your straight up sci-fi. It's about a small town girl (Sookie Stackhouse played by Anna Paquin) living in a time where vampires have "come out of the coffin" after the invention of synthetic blood.

--== Edit 2008/10/18 12:33 ==--
This show kind of reminds me of the 80's show V where we have two races of humanoids coexisting, but where one feeds off the other. This leads to some interesting role reversals. For example at the end of E04S01 Bill and Sookie are on the run when they are pulled over by a police officer, and while Sookie thinks she can handle the situation it turns out Bill is not afraid of cops...
--== End ==--

The shows is covered by EZTV where episodes 3,4 & 6 have been downloaded ~100k times which is quite strong, and with a high (~8) user rating I'm predicting this will be one of this season's hits.

The show airs on Sundays.
